They're a little pricey, but these things are all the rage with city dwelling egg lovers:

This is Cambria.  She's a five month old LaMancha doe.  Her ears are not missing, they're just tiny.  She won't be making milk for anotheryear, but when she does there will be lots of it.

This is Rosie and Butterbean.  They're Nigerian dwarf dairy goats who will be ready to milk come spring, assuming I can find a stud.  Goats' milk is simply the best.  It has a much higher butterfat content than cows' milk.  The fat particles are smaller and naturally homogenized, so the milk won't separate and can be frozen.  The smaller particle size also makes it easier to digest.  I intend to use most of mine to make unpasteurized cheese.  My quest for unpasteurized milk so far has been really disappointing.  There are a lot of goat dairies in the area, but the waiting lists are long.  Unfortunately, cheese cannot be made with ultra-pasteurized milk, neither can a healthy diet.  Ultra-pasteurized milk is utterly useless.  The protein has been obliterated and most of the minerals are unavailable for digestion.  You won't even get that calcium boost you're looking for by drinking ultra-pasteurized milk.  You'd do better to take a supplement.  Down with the overprocessed!!!  At month's end I'll have 14 chicks too.  Mmmmm-- I can taste the fresh eggs already.

This season is an utter disappointment.  They really dumbed it down to the Rachel Ray level with the gas station shopping and block party, but I was willing to hang in there.  The constant parade of children across my screen is, however, a complete turn off.  I'd rather watch reruns of Kitchen Nightmares.

New York, NY (April 29, 2008)- Bpeace (The Business Council for Peace) will honor author, public television host, chef and restaurateur Lidia Bastianich with the first ever Economic Impact Award on May 14, 2008 during their third annual fundraising gala. The event will take place from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at Capitale, 130 Bowery, New York City.

The annual event raises funds to facilitate the work of Bpeace, a nonprofit organization devoted to accelerating the growth of female entrepreneurs in conflict and post-conflict countries, including Afghanistan and Rwanda. CNBC’s Margaret Brennan will emcee the evening, and Nicholas D. Lowry of Swann Auction Galleries will auction items and experiences provided by Ms. Bastianich.

"While Lidia is most recognizable as an Italian food icon, Bpeace is honoring her as an entrepreneurial role model for all women whose families have suffered through violence in their countries, been displaced as refugees, and then channeled their courage to start businesses," said Bpeace chairperson and co-founder Toni Maloney. "Her accomplishments are a testament that women, such as those in our program, can build strong businesses that foster peace, prosperity and stability in their communities."

Tickets for the event start at $500. For more information about the Bpeace gala, or to purchase tickets, please visit: www.bpeace.org/gala.

I think San Francisco has some good food. But not as good as New York. Convince me otherwise.

You may have noticed little icons at the bottom of the pages with a little American and Russian flags. I've been experimenting with language support for FoodCandy. Click on the Russian flag to set the website to Russian, it really works :)

I have only translated the main menu and Me Me.

If someone has any interest for other languages and wants to help with the translation, let me know.
