June Food Candy '07

From the Editor's Couch

Just over a year ago I knew each one of the dozen FoodCandy members personally. They bought me a drink and cheered every time someone new signed up. The little website was living the dark Soviet era of black and white television and Radio Moscow broadcasting the mandatory national anthem every morning before sunrise.

Then came the Internet and people started noticing. FoodCandy got some excellent online press and even a radio show. The system received a lot of constructive criticism and the era of Perestroika began.

In June the authorities could no longer deny the existence of a young group of oligarchs that has emerged. They were actively contributing to this subversive underground Newsletter. Then, when Bon Appetit put FoodCandy on page 36, we were finally granted a visa to emigrate to the other side of the Iron Wall, into real printed press.

For its birthday, FoodCandy would like you to attend the meet-up on the 21st of June in Queens and to invite a friend. Happy birthday dear FoodCandy!
