Foodogenic Candy: Shuckin'-A!

« October-Novemberish Food Candy | Stephanie Kantorski

Welcome to Foodogenic Candy, a monthly column you can feast your eyes on.

This being my first foray into FoodCandy fame, I thought it would be fitting to begin with one of the most ubiquitous foods: corn. Besides being a rather naughty looking vegetable that gets shucked (and provokes images of gnawing on buttery cobs), it’s a cultural icon. We eat candy corns, hang colorful dried ears of corn on our doors and dress up in corny costumes. We munch on popcorn while watching scary movies made in freaky corn fields. In fact, I don’t think I’ve met anyone who doesn’t like corn (not that I actually ask people). And what’s not to like? It can power you as well as your car. Plus it comes in lots of shapes, sizes and flavors.

This funky oft-yellow crop grows all over the world and is used in practically all things edible and non edible. Beyond side dishes and ethanol, it’s nothing short of amaizeing how many things contain corn...almost everything we eat relies on corn!

So here’s a little Foodogenic quiz for all you FoodCandiers who want to brush up on your cornowledge. Below are some pictures of things that count corn as an ingredient. Can you guess which ones use corn and which don't?
